47. Karana-Adhipataye
Lord of All Causes, the Primal Source of Creation.
The forty-seventh name, Karana-Adhipataye, moves from action to its root. If the previous name speaks of deeds and their fruits, this one asks a deeper question: what stands behind the chain of causes itself? The answer given here is Kalabhairava, the Lord who presides over causation without being confined by it.
Elaboration
The compound joins karana, cause or instrument, with adhipati, lord or master. In philosophical language, karana can point to the factors through which things arise, endure, and pass away. To call Bhairava Karana-Adhipati is to say that he is master of those causes, not just one actor among them.
Lord of the Causal Chain
