Guru Shyama Khyapa: According to Vedic beliefs, meat consumption is forbidden for a reason. In the Vedic era, Brahmins did not touch wine or meat. Meat is considered the food of Rakshasas—demons. Humans are not meant to eat it. The primary foods of demons are meat and liquor. Vedic Brahmins would not touch these substances.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: When we perform auspicious ceremonies—like the first rice ceremony, the sacred thread ceremony, or a wedding—these are Mangolik, auspicious acts. Meat, on the other hand, is Amangolik, inauspicious. The problem today is that we have an auspicious framework, but we introduce inauspicious elements into it. When meat enters an auspicious event, you are mixing the auspicious with the inauspicious. This has consequences.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: When meat is served at a wedding, negative energies follow it into the home. Many marriages break up after just a few days. I have seen it happen. Out of 60 to 70 people who come to me, 50 are dealing with divorce. This is partly due to these inauspicious influences. The house where meat ceremonies occur becomes polluted spiritually.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Fish is allowed and is often part of wedding gifts, but meat should never be present. Even modern doctors advise against excessive red meat. They say it contains high cholesterol and uric acid. Science has found that ginger, onions, and garlic—used to mask the smell of raw meat in cooking—can lead to health issues like gout and joint pain.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Do not use meat in weddings or first rice ceremonies. It is inauspicious. Whenever someone brings me a wedding card, I immediately tell them: "Do not serve meat. You can serve different types of fish if you have the means, but never meat." The consequences for violating this are dire. It may taste good, but the results are bad. We are eating the food of demons and bringing inauspiciousness into auspiciousness.
