Devotee:
Gurudev, in this late afternoon, I start today's episode by paying my respects to Mother Bamatara of Shanti Kunj and to you, Gurudev. Gurudev, I had a question. Can practitioners, those who perform spiritual practices (Sadhaks), retain the power they receive from God? Can every practitioner do that? This is my question.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Look, God is 33,000 volts. It is not possible for a practitioner to retain His power. Because if you make a deity out of straw and clay, you wouldn't bow to it initially because it's not complete. It has no power. It's being made with straw and clay. You won't bow to it. Why not? Because you know it has no power. Usually, practitioners give the power. There is a lot of power in the universe. That power is drawn into God. Practitioners can do it. Priests don't think about it so much. They don't think much because during a puja, whether it's Durga Puja or Kali Puja, any puja...
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
...some rituals have to be performed. But they don't know. We, the practitioners, store some power from above and put it into the Mother. Because a clay idol has no power. Power has to be supplied. So, who will provide it? Only a practitioner can. There's some power in the great universe which is put into Mother.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Through 'kush' grass, 'bel' leaves, and flowers, the universe is invoked. And the life of the Mother is consecrated by touching her chest with 'kush'. What's included in life consecration? All the powers that a human has are given to the Mother. Like 'Ang Hring Krong Jong Rong Long Bong Song Song Hong Hong So'. The life force of Mother Durga is established. Again 'Ang Hring Krong Jong Rong Long Bong Song Song Hong Hong So'. Mother Durga's spirit is established. Again it is said...
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
...'Ang Hring Jong Rong Long Bong Song Song Hong Hong So' Mother Durga's speech, eyes, ears, nose, life force, and happiness, may they stay here. Speech, life force, what we are inhaling, all the six senses' power is being given to her. You understand? Life is being given. There are some characters through which universal power is put into her. This storm is a power. The storm is a power, right? Lightning is a power. These things are in the universe which we can feel but they are in the universe.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
So, those have to be established in the Mother. Life consecration has to be done. Her eyes, nose, life, and happiness, everything is given. This is how Mother's life is consecrated. You see? This is how 'Pranaya-ih-prana' (life force) is established. 'Om Ang Hring Krong Jong Rong Long Bong Song Song Hong Hong So', Mother Durga's spirit. Again 'Om Ang Hring Krong Jong Rong Long Bong Song Song Hong Hong So', Mother Durga... Mother Durga's speech, eyes, ears, nose, and life force, everything is given. These are some things for priests, putting life into Mother. Mother's life is consecrated. Without life consecration, a mother cannot be worshipped. Then she is bathed, fed, and everything that a human does is done for Mother.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
And a practitioner's job is to gather all those powers from the universe, the fierce powers, and put them into the Mother. Then the practitioner takes power from Mother. It's a system. The practitioner supplied the power to the Mother and again the practitioner takes power from the Mother. He is then full of power. When Mother is full of power, then the practitioner gets the chance. And then he takes power from the Mother, absorbs it. It won't work with just a clay idol, it has no life, nothing. So, life is given to her. A human's 24 elements (tattvas) are given to her. There are 24 elements in our body. These 24 elements are given to Mother. Nose, life force, all these are given to Mother.
Devotee:
But Gurudev, my question is here. I asked you that the practitioner draws universal power and puts it into the clay form to make it conscious. Then the practitioner again takes that power from that conscious form. My question is, can an ordinary priest do this?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
There is universal power, and it's established in Mother. That's true. There's a lot of universal power. Electric power is one. Storm is another power. There are different powers. Drawing them together, practitioners know how to do it, and putting it into her.
Devotee:
My question is, Gurudev, can an ordinary priest do it?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
It's not possible for an ordinary priest. They perform the worship. See, when does Mother's radiance increase? After the worship. Before the worship, it's not so much. After the worship, Mother's radiance increases. Why? Because some universal power enters. It cannot be denied. Some universal power enters, which has to be brought in. Mother cannot bring it herself. Look, when Mother Durga became ten-armed (dashapraharanadharini), everyone gave her weapons. Someone gave her a water pot (kamandalu), someone gave her a trident (trishul), someone gave her a sword (kharga), someone gave her a noose (pasha). Different powers were given and then Mother was full of power.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Ten people gave Mother Durga ten weapons. Brahma gave one, Vishnu gave one, Shiva gave one, Vishwakarma gave one, and different deities adorned the Mother. Then Mother was adorned, and then she was able to fight with the demon. Such a big demon she fought with, it's not a small thing.
Devotee:
That means, Gurudev, you are saying that even Mother had to take power from others.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Otherwise, how would it happen? These deities adorned Mother Durga. They put weapons in different hands. Ten weapons in ten hands for the war. They gave the preparation for the war. Mother didn't take anything herself. You see?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Now, it's the same for the practitioners. When a girl named Chitra commented to me for two consecutive days about how long a practitioner can retain power. A practitioner cannot retain power. If he retains that power, it's 33,000 volts. A practitioner cannot retain that power, he has to let it go. If a practitioner thinks he will retain it, then a stroke is inevitable. His brain skull might burst. There's so much power. The brain skull might burst. Power will be manifested. Power was given to you, then it has its action. Power has its action. It will try to burst out. Power will try to come out.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Through eyes, mouth, brain, anus, wherever possible, it will come out. It has to come out. Power cannot be retained. If power is retained, hands and feet will tremble, vision will be blurred, eyes will be hazy. The breathing rate will increase. As a result, a heart attack might also happen. That's why practitioners retain Mother's power for a while and then let it go. They do the work they need to do and then let Mother go. It's not that they keep the power for themselves. No, no.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Power has to be released. Power is released because Mother is put to sleep again. She is not kept awake. Keeping Mother awake is harmful to the practitioner and also to the people around him. Not only for the practitioner, it's very harmful to the people around him.
Devotee:
So Gurudev, you are saying that power is taken back from Mother?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
It's exchanged. Power is given to the Mother and then it is exchanged. I'm giving power to Mother and again taking power from Mother. It's an exchange system. And this power is so strong.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
It's 33,000 volts. It cannot be retained. That's why when we work, we wake Mother up, work, and then put her to sleep again. Otherwise, Mother will be very fierce. And it's not possible for a practitioner to retain this power. It's not possible for any human to retain it. It's not possible even for the deities. The deities are the owners of power, but they also cannot retain so much power. So much power. That's why the practitioner might have a heart attack. Brain might burst. Many things can happen. The power will come out. The power cannot be kept inside. This is a fierce power, and it's a universal power. These universal powers are usually captured by the practitioners.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
They capture it from above and put it into Mother's body. Mother then becomes alive. From 'mrinmoyi' (clay form) she becomes 'chinmoyi' (conscious form). And her power increases significantly then. Then the practitioner takes power from Mother. When he gives power to Mother, Mother's power is 33,000 volts.
Devotee:
Gurudev, I have a question for you. Many people say that Mother is alive here.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Alive, of course.
Devotee:
If she's alive, then the practitioner took the power from her. Then how will she stay alive?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
What happens if the power is taken? Won't Mother stay alive? The practitioner keeps Mother awake.
Devotee:
Keeps her awake in some other way. Even after taking the power, he keeps her awake.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, he keeps Mother awake so that she can work. Mother has to work. The practitioner keeps Mother awake. Only a practitioner can. Nobody else can.
Devotee:
Then Gurudev, a practitioner's presence is needed in every temple at all times.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Always a practitioner's presence is needed in a temple to keep Mother awake. If Mother sleeps, it's over. We have a saying: "Sadhak, you stay awake, don't sleep. You don't have the right to sleep. If you sleep, Mother will sleep, society will sleep, and the powers of the world will also sleep. You stay awake."
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
This is said in Vedanta. It's said in Vedanta. "Sadhak, you don't have the right to sleep. You stay awake. If you sleep, the world will sleep, Mother will sleep, and the universal powers will also sleep. Keep them awake." That's why practitioners don't sleep. We who are here, we might nod off a bit, but our hearts are not satisfied. Our hearts are not satisfied.
Devotee:
Gurudev, I see you often say that when you go to sleep at night, you don't sleep, you just sit.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, I just sit, sit quietly.
Devotee:
Is it because of this? To keep Mother awake?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, yes. Mother goes away. If Mother has some problem, if you have some problem, you go away. If Mother has some problem, she goes away. Mother wakes up. That's why the name of this place is 'Sojag Dham' (Awake Abode). Mother is always awake here. Mother doesn't sleep here. It's called Sojag Dham. This abode is Sojag Dham. Mother has no sleep here. She's always alive.
Devotee:
That means you are saying Mother is waking you up again. "You wake me up." A reverse action.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, reverse action. Reverse action has to be done. 'Anulom-Vilom' (alternate nostril breathing) has to be done. Taking a breath is not enough, you have to release it. Not just taking a breath, you have to release it.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
'Anulom-Vilom'. The same goes for Mother. If Mother has a problem, she'll go home. She indicates it to me. This has happened many times. I had to come back. We keep people here, they perform duty for Mother, and guard her so that she doesn't face any trouble. Still, sometimes Mother goes home if there's some problem.
Devotee:
Gurudev, we have seen temples of many gods and goddesses in many places. In those cases, do they follow the same path as you?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
How many practitioners are there in the world? 'Siddha Sadhak' (perfected practitioner). Not just a practitioner, a 'Siddha Sadhak'. One must have the 'siddhi' (perfection). Then only he is called a 'Siddha Sadhak'. Not before that.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Only a 'Siddha Sadhak' can keep Mother awake. And can draw the universal power into the Mother. Mother becomes very powerful then. With that power, she serves the people. That power is running things. I'm seeing hundreds of people because of whose power? Mother's power. Mother gives the power, so I can see a hundred people. And can do their work. Someone has a bad planet (graha), someone has some other problem, someone has bad kidneys, someone has a bad heart. We are doing the work without any obstacles by trusting in Mother. Because I know what I gave, I gave in Mother's name.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Mother will see, Mother will understand. We do 40% to 50% work, 50% we leave to Mother. "This is not our work, it's your work." If I do everything, ego will come and I'll think I'm above Mother. Mother gets angry. We leave 50% of the work to Mother. Sometimes we have to knock on Mother's door based on the requirement. Practitioners have to do it sometimes.
Devotee:
Gurudev, we have seen you suddenly get up from your seat and stand by Mother's door.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Then maybe I'm performing some ritual, some ritual for someone. Someone's illness. Performing some ritual, then Mother's door has to be knocked on. Mother has to be told, "Why did you do this, Mother? This has to be done."
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Like an operation is going on. We send Mother to the operation table. On God. We send Mother to the operation table. "Go, do the operation. Come back and tell me how you did the operation." These are very secret things.
Devotee:
Among these secret things, Gurudev, the other day we saw a gentleman came with his wife. The next day, that lady's operation would be held. The gentleman was repeatedly requesting you, "Will you be at the operation table?"
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, repeatedly saying. Many people say this to me. "If you are at the operation table, then I will admit her. Otherwise, I won't." So I have to say I'll be at the operation table. Not me, Mother will be there.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
One can go in 'sukshma deha' (subtle body). Mother is also told, "Go Mother, hold the scissors." This is a request. A practitioner's request. Mother fulfills it. Mother will go. Fierce, fierce cases. Many doctors have called and told me.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
"Admit such patients? Are these patients who will survive?" Mother was there, so she was saved. They tell many stories. That's fine. Now, we have to make some requests to Mother. Some weird requests we make, which Mother has to fulfill. Many people come here before going to the hospital and then get admitted. And at the time of admission, they say, "You'll be at the operation, right?"
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, these are true, these are true.
Devotee:
Dear audience, you heard today, only a true practitioner can give power to Mother, especially a 'mrinmoyi' Mother. And with her conscious power, Gurudev... it's done very secretly.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Again, she gives power to that practitioner. For that, he has to do some work. Those who are ordinary priests, they might just give flowers and water. But a practitioner won't do that. A practitioner's work is done secretly. Entirely secretly. Very carefully. Then all the powers of Mother will be there.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Smell, taste, form, sound, nose, tongue, eyes, ears, speech, hands, anus, genitals, nature, mind, intellect, and ego, these 24 elements are given to Mother. Everything that's in a human. Everything is given to Mother.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Then Mother wakes up. If Mother wakes up, indications are found. Mother is awake, indications are found. Mother's movement is found, her smile is found.
Devotee:
That only you will find, those who are practitioners will find it.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
On the day this boy's father died, he came to me. This boy who is sitting here. He said he saw tears in Mother's eyes. You said it, didn't you? He said it. He saw tears in Mother's eyes. That night his father died.
Devotee:
Dear audience, we are showing this boy once. Look at this boy once. What happened, Gurudev is telling again.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
His father was in a very bad condition, admitted to the hospital. I told him to sit with Mother, and tell Mother. I would give the things. But he saw tears in Mother's eyes. He saw tears in Mother's eyes. He told me.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
When do tears come to Mother's eyes? When her creation goes away. We cry to Mother, or those who come cry. Now Mother's eyes also have tears. He's a science student, doing a PhD. He's telling me he saw tears in Mother's eyes.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
So what will you say? He saw Mother crying. And that night his father died.
Devotee:
That means he got an ominous sign.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Of course. He told me. Everything is there.
Devotee:
Gurudev, everything is in this world, but everything is a matter of belief and disbelief. Someone believes, someone doesn't. This is the thing.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Whether someone believes or not, there's no need to see. Look, God didn't tell anyone to call God. God is looking at everyone equally. The one who's not calling is also getting to eat, and the one who's calling is also getting to eat. There's no difference, child.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
The one who's not calling God, an atheist, God is looking at him too. Again, the one who's calling with all his heart, God is looking at him too. God doesn't have this partiality. That he'll look at the one who's calling and won't look at the one who isn't.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
When the sun rises, does it give light in one place and not in another? It gives light to everyone, and everyone gets it. One type of light in Kolkata and another type of light elsewhere? Like the sun, Mother is manifest.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
The one who's calling is getting her, the one who's not calling is also getting her motherly compassion. There's no such thing. Mother doesn't have two eyes. Mother has one eye. Like the sun has one eye. When it rises, it gives light to everyone. It's not excluding anyone. Sinners, sufferers, holy souls, everyone is getting sunlight.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Similarly, Mother is the same. Mother doesn't have partiality. She's giving food to the one who's not calling and also to the one who's calling.
Devotee:
Gurudev, we are very grateful for the beautiful description of a practitioner you gave us today. So, I pay my respects to you again and again, Gurudev. So, dear audience, I'm telling you, listen to these words of Gurudev carefully, then you'll understand the difference, the power of a practitioner. Don't comment rudely. You'll see what a true practitioner is and what an ordinary practitioner is.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
One day Bapdeb Baba was insulted a lot. Today, let me see who insults Bapdeb Baba. Who has the courage? Let's see who insults Bapdeb Baba. This happens, it happens later.
Devotee:
Ending today's episode. Respects, Gurudev.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Respects.
