Devotee:
Pronam, Gurudev. Pronam to everyone. We have been listening to your insights on Tantra Sadhana, Kula Kundalini, and its various chakras. Today, in this third episode, we have a few more questions for you. Based on what we have heard from you so far, it seems that Tantra Sadhana is an extremely difficult path โ the most difficult, in fact. The rituals involved are arduous and require intense concentration, focus, and the guidance of an authentic Guru. However, today we see many things being presented in the name of Tantra Sadhana that are creating confusion and a sense of fear among people. Having dedicated so many years to this path, could you tell us which practices you believe are unnecessary or being done incorrectly?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
You see, people often judge by appearances. Someone wearing various beads โ rudraksha, bones, or whatever โ and putting on a show, creates a certain attraction. People are drawn to it, just as bees are drawn to flowers. They see the outward display and think, "He must know a lot," but he might be completely hollow inside. As they say, "empty vessels sound the most."
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
One who knows nothing of God, has no idea of spirituality, and has never performed true penance, will adopt these disguises. It is all a sham. Without the "costume," one doesn't get alms or attention. To attract followers, they keep human skulls in front of them, put on a big show, and wear red clothes.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Do you know why we seekers wear red? It is because the Mother (Goddess Kali) is danger โ the ultimate danger. By wearing red, we are signaling, "Mother, I am also danger." It is a meeting of equals. It's not that the Mother won't show mercy if I wear white, or that Tantra Sadhana won't work.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Some perform "Ulango" (naked) Sadhana. I have done it for many years, not even keeping a thread on my body. Why? Because the Mother herself is naked; she is unattached and wild. To worship her, one must become like her. I cannot sit dressed up and decorated while the Mother is naked; that wouldn't be right.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
The core of Tantra involves the "Pancha Makara" (the five Ms): Madya (alcohol), Mansa (meat), Matsya (fish), Maithuna (sexual union), and Matsarya (ego/jealousy). But here is the thing: none of these need to be bought from outside. They are all within your own body. Madya, Mansa โ it is all inside you. You have to cultivate and extract it from within through Kriya Yoga. It doesn't mean literally cutting yourself open; it's a spiritual process. The "Five Ms" are internal. You can perform this Sadhana in a tiny space; even one seat is enough if you know how to activate these internal elements through yoga and specific Kriyas.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
People today think they need crates of alcohol, a whole goat for meat, a large fish, or a woman for Maithuna. This is because they don't know the truth. The only true goal of the Sadhana we have performed is the welfare of all living beings (Jiver Kalyan). If you can achieve that, only then can you be called a Tantrik. Just practicing Tantra doesn't make you one. There are signs and symptoms that manifest within you when you truly attain success.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Lately, I see things like "Rajyabhishek" (royal coronations) or "Samrajya-abhishek." People come to me asking for these. I tell them, "Look, we live in the cremation grounds; we don't do all that." I never saw my Guru do such things; he always wore simple red cloth. When people talk about these "coronations," and I ask them what it means, they can't even explain it. What value does it have?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Some people tell devotees, "You need a Rajyabhishek, you need this or that ritual," just to take their money. They don't even know what the words mean, but they act as if they are experts. We don't need crates of alcohol or goats. The "fish" is also within me. My body has two "rivers" โ Ganga and Yamuna (the Ida and Pingala nadis). The fish resides there, and I have to catch it through spiritual practice. Maithuna is an internal union, a vibration. Matsarya (ego) is also something to be mastered internally.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
I do this for my own soul's elevation, not for a public show. Nowadays, in Tarapith, you see someone bringing 50 people, making a huge noise, lighting a funeral pyre, and telling people to offer oblations. I stay there and think, "At least leave your name and address; if the ghosts catch you, I'll need to know who you were!"
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
It makes me very angry when I see people bathing the Goddess in alcohol. Someone told me they spent 2,000 rupees at Tarapith to see the Mother being bathed. I told him, "I'll give you 10,000 rupees to see your wife being bathed; would you agree?" He was ashamed. We think we have become gods ourselves.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Look at Muslims or Christians โ when they pray, they do it together. Thousands of people sit for Namaz together. Christians congregate in churches. But we Hindus? We put a single leaf on a Shiva Lingam and act like we've done something huge. We have no unity in our worship. We shout about being Hindus, but we don't follow the essence.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Where are the real Tantriks? Many come to me, even from far away. Recently, ten disciples of Bam-khapa came to see me. But the ones you see in the market โ with their alcohol, girls, fish, and goats โ they are mostly for "Apas-devata" (lower spirits), not for the Divine Mother.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
I was at Tarapith once and saw a man from North Bengal sacrifice a goat, drink all its blood, and smear the rest over his body. I was shocked. Is this Tantra? It's just animalistic. True Tantra needs none of this โ no alcohol, no meat, no external shows.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
I live simply, as you can see. I don't need to shout that I am a Tantrik. But everyone knows Shamakhyapa. I don't advertise it. If someone calls me a "Tantrik" to my face, I often get angry. A true practitioner should be someone people respect, not someone they fear because of a costume. You saw how many people came to bow to me this morning. They don't come because I'm scary; they come out of respect, even if I am sometimes harsh with them.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Those who are cheating people in the name of religion โ taking money for "70 bottles of alcohol" or "coronations" โ it won't last. That money will go to doctors or lawyers; it cannot be kept. Tantra must be done for the welfare of humanity.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
When we took our vows at the cremation ground, we promised: "Lord, people will come to me in distress, in pain, and in sickness. Let me not feast on their money." Doctors take a similar oath to serve, though many forget it later when money becomes the focus. Everyone takes an oath โ ministers, doctors, and us. We do this for a reason.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
If you don't give these fake gurus money, they won't be able to carry on their shows. I've seen the VIP lines at Tarapith and Kalighat โ people paying 500 rupees to jump the line. Is that right? Is that "punya" (merit)? The person who has been fasting and waiting in the sun at the very back โ that is the true soul. The ones exploiting them are the greatest sinners.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Tantra should be done for the welfare of people so that everyone loves and respects you. What people say behind your back should be the same as what they say to your face. It's shameful what is happening in West Bengal today โ earning money through fear and deceit is loathsome.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, money is needed for sustenance, but not through exploitation. I've heard of girls being told to give 70 bottles of alcohol for a ritual that yields no results. It's heartbreaking. I spoke about the "Pancha Makara" in a previous episode โ it is a spiritual concept, not a literal shopping list.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
True humanity means having a backbone. People would be better off robbing an ATM at night โ at least then they aren't selling God. God might forgive a thief, but He won't forgive those who trade in His name. It's shameful.
