Man:
Pranam, Guru-dev.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, pranam, son.
Man:
I wanted to ask something today... I am not very familiar with this topic, so I am relying on you. I have read or heard that the sages (Sadhus) who live in Gyan Ganj remain alive for thousands of years without eating anything.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, they live up to 10,000 years. Bepai Ma has lived for about 3,000 years; my Mahantapa Muni for 5,000 years.
Man:
My question is, how do they stay alive?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Babaji Maharaj has lived for 2,500 years. Now, it is indeed a surprising thing how they stay alive without eating.
Man:
Exactly. That is what I wanted to discuss. We also have the doctor here today.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
This is our fundamental point. It is possible to practice spirituality (Sadhana) without eating. You might think one would die without food, but that is not the case. Yes, the body becomes weak and thin, but one will not die. For example, have you heard of Pawhari Baba? The word 'Paw' means air—he consumed air. There are many nutrients within the air, and by consuming those, they live for many years. They don't even drink water. There is no urination or defecation—nothing. They just remain in their seat. Some for 2,000 years, some for 1,500, 1,000, or 500 years. They lose physical consciousness; they remain in a trance-like state. Among them, a few might eat a little—perhaps some khichdi is made, and they have some. Not everyone, but a few. They gradually give up the habit; they don't stop all at once. Since eating leads to the need for defecation and urination, and they don't want to get up or disturb their asana (meditation seat), they slowly stop eating altogether. When they first go to Gyan Ganj, they might eat light things like khichdi, but through habit, they eventually stop eating.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Recently, a picture was shown of someone in Gyan Ganj who has stopped eating. The main reason is to avoid bodily functions. Once eating stops, urination and defecation stop automatically. Then they can stay in that state. It is an amazing thing. From above, from the universe, a certain power is bestowed upon the head, which is called 'Khoron' (secretion). When this secretion begins, the sages need nothing else. Within this secretion, there is enough energy for 5,000 to 10,000 years. It comes from the head; it is like a nectar called 'Madhu'. This secretion comes from the brain and goes straight to the liver. After that, one feels no hunger. Hunger becomes a non-existent concept. The secretion flows from the brain to the liver, and you don't have to eat anything. Your stomach feels full.
Man:
I want to ask the doctor. Guru-dev provided this information, but according to medical science, is it possible for a human to live for so many years without food?
Doctor:
Look, 10,000, 5,000, or 2,500 years—we have only heard of this. I haven't been to Gyan Ganj, nor have I seen such proven facts in books.
Man:
We have read or heard about these things on YouTube or Google.
Doctor:
What I am saying is based on what I've seen with my own eyes. I have seen many such sages in various places who truly do not eat anything. I tried hard to find the reason and even asked Guru-dev once.
Man:
Let me ask, how long can a normal person stay alive without food?
Doctor:
Sir Isaac Newton noted that without food and water, a person could live for 45 days consciously. But without sleep, one cannot live for more than 11 days. Now, let's look at a coma patient in the ICU. Where do they eat? They don't. They are fed through tubes for months. So how is the body's metabolism working? The doctor gives medicine and liquid food, but they are still receiving nutrients. Now, regarding what Guru-dev said about 'Khoron'—I cannot say if it is proven or not. But medically, you might have heard of adrenaline or serotonin. These things increase the body's energy levels and keep a person excited. There are even injections for it; it's a life-saving drug. It is released from the brain. It has the power to make a person intense if overdosed. Regarding what Guru-dev said about the Sahasrara Chakra at the top of the brain—we know that for a person to survive, they need about 1,600 to 2,200 kilocalories. Everyone knows this today.
Doctor:
But in the case of sages, we've heard since childhood that even their shadow or footsteps make life meaningful. Why don't they say that about a politician or an officer? There must be something. It is because they are 'Tyagi' (those who renounce). They have renounced the 'Kaya' (body)—hunger, sleep, bodily functions. They practice intense Yogic Kriyas. Their Kundalini power is so awakened that no one has been able to prove its extent. I don't think any doctor or scientist can prove this even in a research lab.
Doctor:
If they want, they can decrease or increase their age or even welcome death. When they are in a deep Samadhi, they cannot even be touched. I have seen them sitting in Samadhi for many days. The question remains: how do they sit without eating? But they are 'out of this world'. We only see one galaxy or universe, but who knows how many galaxies are inside our body? Only those who know Yoga, Tantra, or Kundalini power know this. Even doctors now tell patients to reduce stress and anxiety. These emotions increase in people, and they can't control them. What Guru-dev calls 'Khoron' is a sort of adrenaline or serotonin that tastes sweeter than honey. I have read that its power is about 5,000 kilocalories. So why would that person need food?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
There is no need for food. This secretion is a cosmic event. It's not something you can just do if you want to. It's a ray that comes from the universe and hits the head, starting the secretion. It drips down. When it reaches the throat, its sweetness is unimaginable. I have experienced it. One would go crazy for it. Then you won't like to eat anything else, no matter how delicious the food is. It eventually reaches the liver. I am a witness to this; I have stayed without food for a long time.
Disciple:
We have seen Guru-dev eat just a tiny bit of rice, like a sparrow, years ago. He used to fast for days and wouldn't even drink water. Even now, he drinks very little water. No doctor can explain how he lives on such a small amount.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
People say you should drink 2-3 liters of water. I don't. I might take a drop. You all know how you pester me about water. Sometimes I just wet my mouth, but earlier I wouldn't even do that for years.
Man:
Is that because you would have to leave your meditation seat?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Yes, if I sit here and have to go to the bathroom, it is a problem. Now that I am older, people force me to eat and worry about my health. I get very annoyed. People call and ask how I am. Everyone does this. They tell me to eat. This irritates me because they poke at the very thing I am trying to avoid. They don't understand that I don't care about this 'Kaya' (body). You should have devotion for the Guru, not just worry about his physical body. We didn't create this body; God did. If a bone breaks, we can join it, but it's never the same as before. Science has its limits. What God creates, science cannot prove. Rationalists might criticize until they see it with their own eyes.
Doctor:
There's a saying, 'Jaro Byadhi Mrityu' (Old age, disease, death). Everyone faces this. But sages can live through 'Kaya-kalpa' (body rejuvenation). Lokenath Baba, Trailanga Swami—everyone knows about them. Trailanga Swami lived for 280 years. Once Bama Khepa asked him for clothes. When he put them on, his Samadhi broke. These aren't lies. There's a Guru who is 153 years old and still alive, though no one sees him.
Man:
You have heard quite a bit. I wanted to ask Guru-dev and the doctor about one topic, but many other things came up. We heard many untold stories from Guru-dev.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
We don't usually say these things unless we find the right person.
Man:
Guru-dev has a saying: 'Hojo Bhojiyolo'. Whatever spiritual realization you have attained, if you tell everyone, it loses its power. Also, it is said not to give advice to those who think they know more than you. These things remain behind the scenes.
Man:
I hope you enjoyed this episode. Stay healthy and well. Pranam, Guru-dev.
