On our YouTube channel, Gupto Sadhok Shyama Khepa, we have been listening to you talk about the Dashamahavidya and their relationship with various planets. You have discussed several planets already. Today, we would like to hear from you about the Sun, Surya.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
In our bodies, from the moment we are born, the Sun plays a massive role. A person's longevity depends on the position of the Sun. Longevity, respect, honor, and fame, these four things are primarily governed by the Sun. If we see that someone's Sun is weak, meaning it lacks degrees or is debilitated, we usually recommend wearing a Ruby, Chuni. Now, the price of a genuine Burmese Ruby is extremely high, often ranging from 1 to 1.5 lakh rupees, and they are quite rare. In such cases, we suggest an alternative. Since the presiding deity of the Sun is Goddess Matangi, let's talk about her. She is sometimes called Ucchishta Chandali. She holds a Veena in her hands. She is adorned with a Gunja necklace, the color of pomegranate seeds, and she loves that color. She resides at the mouth of the sacrificial fire, Homa. As I said, the Sun provides us with longevity, fame, and honor. If the Sun is weak in a person's birth chart, we recommend the Ruby. But for those who cannot afford it, there is a spiritual practice. In the early morning, when the Sun rises as a bright red orb, find a high vantage point, like a rooftop. Take a copper vessel, kosha-kushi, fill it with water, and take a red hibiscus flower, Jaba phul. Offer this to the Sun, Surya Arghya, while meditating on the following mantra: Raktambujasano sheshagunai ka bhanu samasta jagatadhipam abhaya, Padmadvaya bhaktadharam bhasvarcho mauli manirang ruchin kiretam. Om Hrim Hah Sah Martanda Bhairava Prakasho Shakti Sahitaya Bhagavate Shri Suryaya Svaha. If you offer this Arghya to the Sun regularly, your lungs and heart will remain healthy. You won't even need to wear a Ruby. Simply waking up early, bathing, and offering water and a hibiscus flower while chanting this mantra is incredibly beneficial. I will say it again: Ehi Surya Sahasransho Tejorashe Jagatpate, Anukampaya Mam Bhaktam Grihanarghyam Divakaram. Essentially, you are asking the Creator of Light to accept your offering and listen to your prayer. The Sun's Gayatri Mantra is also very powerful: Om Sahasrakiranaya Vidmahe, Shatru-nashaya Dhimahi, Tanno Surya Prachodayat, or Tanno Surya Aditya Prachodayat. Practicing this daily will yield results. Goddess Matangi is always there, playing her Veena. She is a major deity in Tantra, and her worship is very prominent in Tibet. Doing this morning ritual will improve your health, lungs and heart, and bring you fame and respect. When the Sun is conjunct with Mercury, Budha, it forms the Budh-Aditya Yoga. Mercury provides education, intelligence, and good job prospects, while the Sun provides longevity and status. Now, Goddess Matangi's worship is not something a common householder can easily perform. She is the deity of the Sun. In Tantra, we invoke her specifically during Homa rituals. We call upon her to sit at the mouth of the fire before we start the invocation. Even in the Vedas, though we chant Vedic mantras to light the fire, we keep Matangi in our hearts. There is a mantra for the seven tongues or colors of fire: Agnim Prajvalitam Vande Jatavedam Hutashanam, Suvarna-varnam Samiddham Vishvato Mukham. Just as fire has seven colors, our blood has seven colors, and the Sun has seven colors. There is a deep connection between our blood and the Sun. When we chant Hah Sah, it is related to the Sun and our breath, one breath in, one breath out. We do this automatically without even realizing it. The famous poet Ramprasad once realized this and said, Ayu Surya mor bosheteche pate, my life-sun is setting. He understood the Sun's connection to longevity. Even in modern times, Sun Science, Surya Vigyan, is a major topic. If you read about Gyan Ganj, you'll find that the primary practice there is Sun Science. Even NASA is studying the Sun intensely now. Ancient Indian saints sought to reach the Sun through Yoga.

I have a question. In previous episodes, you mentioned that householders should be cautious with certain Dashamahavidya practices. Since everyone is interested in the Sun's energy, what precautions should they take?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
There aren't many precautions for the ritual I described. When a child is born, the planets are already set. If the Sun is weak in the chart, the simple ritual of offering water and a hibiscus flower is the best remedy. Again, the Sun's Gayatri: Om Sahasrakiranaya Vidmahe, Surya-atmano Dhimahi, Tanno Surya Prachodayat. As I mentioned, I once met people from Canada who don't see the sun for six months a year. They have to take Vitamin D tablets because the Sun is our natural source of Vitamin D. The Sun keeps us healthy, gives us status, and provides wealth. So, you don't need fancy sweets or elaborate offerings. Just a hibiscus flower, some water in a copper vessel, and the mantra.
