Questioner: Gurudev, I have a question for your favorite disciple, Santanu Roy. What is meant by "Mangalik" or "Baidhabya Yoga" (widowhood yoga)? Why is it called that? And is there any remedy for it?
Santanu Roy: Look, first of all, we need to understand the meaning of the word "Mangal." Before discussing its role, we must understand its essence. Many people have misconceptions; many are afraid of "Mangal" or "Mangalik." They go to astrologers who tell them that if Mars is in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the ascendant, it results in Mangalik Dosha.
Santanu Roy: But is this actually realistic? What is the origin story of Mars? If we study Mars thoroughly, we find it in various roles. "Mangal" means that which is auspicious, that which is beneficial. The term "Mangalik" essentially means "auspicious."
Santanu Roy: However, the term "Mangalik" has been commercialized in our astrological traditions for financial gain. But "Mangalik" does not mean that a boy's or girl's future is ruined; that makes no sense. I need to explain the various aspects of Mars.
Santanu Roy: We judge a marriage from the 7th house, the 2nd house, and the 11th house from the ascendant. And we judge how domestic and conjugal life will be after marriage from the 4th, 8th, and 12th houses.
Santanu Roy: It is a matter of judgment how conjugal life will be after marriage. Most importantly, if Mars is in the 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house, it doesn't automatically mean "Mangalik Dosha." We must understand Mars first.
Santanu Roy: If we read the history of the birth of Mars, it originated at the Mangalnath Temple in Ujjain, about 6 kilometers away. The size of Mars is nearly half that of Earth.
Santanu Roy: Now, if we consider Mars, it might be placed in a negative constellation (Nakshatra), a negative state, or a negative house in the birth chart of a person. For that, the person isn't "Mangalik"—the fault lies with the constellation.
Santanu Roy: First, one must look at the "Navatara Chakra" (the nine-star cycle): Janma (Birth), Sampat (Wealth), Vipat (Danger), Kshema (Well-being), Pratyari (Obstacles), Sadhana (Achievement), Nidhana (Death), Mitra (Friend), and Ati-Mitra (Great Friend). You have to see which star Mars is passing through.
Santanu Roy: You also need to look at the "Sannari Chakra." When matching for marriage, you must see if Mars is passing through the Janma Nakshatra (birth star), Karma Nakshatra (action star), Sanghatika Nakshatra (dangerous star), Samudaya Nakshatra (communal star), Vinasha Nakshatra (destructive star), or Manasa Nakshatra (mental star). All these aspects need to be calculated.
Santanu Roy: So, it's not just about Mars; there are eight other planets. Excluding Rahu and Ketu, we have seven primary planets that must be considered.
Santanu Roy: If Mars along with other houses becomes negative... If we calculate marriage from the 2nd, 7th, and 12th houses... the lord of the 7th house is the significator of marriage.
Santanu Roy: If your ascendant is Sagittarius, your 7th house is Gemini. If it is Gemini, then Mercury is the lord of the 7th house and the significator of marriage. If your ascendant is Virgo, your 7th house is Pisces, and its lord is Jupiter, who signifies marriage. If your ascendant is Scorpio, your 7th house is Taurus, and its lord is Venus, who signifies marriage. Therefore, we shouldn't just make Mars the villain.
Santanu Roy: Mars alone doesn't ruin your birth chart. This entire calculation is often misunderstood. We calculate from the 2nd, 7th, and 12th houses. Why? Because the 12th house from the ascendant is the 6th house from the 7th house. From the 6th house, we judge disease, debt, and enemies. And the 2nd house from the ascendant is the 8th house from the 7th house. From the 8th house, we see how the domestic and conjugal life will be, whether there will be any accidents or injuries after marriage.
Santanu Roy: If the 2nd, 7th, and 12th houses support your marriage... suppose your ascendant is Sagittarius. The lord of the 7th house is Mercury (Gemini). The lord of the 2nd house is Saturn (Capricorn). The lord of the 12th house is Mars (Scorpio). If Saturn, Mars, and Mercury—these three planets—pass through good constellations and parameters, then your conjugal life will be happy after marriage.
Santanu Roy: But if the lords of the 12th and 2nd houses do not support you, even if the lord of the 7th house (like Mercury for Sagittarius) is well-placed, and if the positions of Saturn and Mars are negative or passing through negative constellations, then you might face divorce, separation, or various other problems. There are many calculations involved.
Santanu Roy: So, we shouldn't just blame Mars. We have created the term "Mangalik," but Mars's meaning is entirely different. It has no direct relation to marriage in that way.
Santanu Roy: All planets, according to your ascendant and zodiac sign, play a role. The lord of the 7th house governs marriage. First, calculate your birth chart properly. Look at the "Panchang" (almanac). See how the Panchang is. After calculating the Panchang, look at the Sannari Chakra: Janma, Karma, Vinasha, Sanghatika, Samudaya, and Manasa Nakshatras—these six constellations make up your Sannari Chakra.
Santanu Roy: Then move to the Navatara Chakra: Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhana, Nidhana, Mitra, and Ati-Mitra. See which star the constellation is passing through. Calculate that.
Santanu Roy: Then come to the "Panchamahabhuta" theory: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Every constellation has a characteristic. Which constellation falls under the Fire sign, Earth sign, Air sign, or Water sign? You must understand the energy of your own sign and ascendant.
Santanu Roy: Next, we look at "Tithi" (lunar day) and "Karan" (half of a lunar day). See which Karan you fall under and which planet governs that Karan. See which Tithi you fall under and which planet governs that Tithi. Every single detail is a matter of judgment. We must consider every calculation to lead a marriage to the right place.
Santanu Roy: Let me tell you one more thing. If you are matching the charts of a couple and 36 out of 36 points match, let me give you a short explanation. Suppose you are the groom. If the bride's constellation is a "Sanghatika" (dangerous) or "Vinasha" (destructive) constellation relative to yours, then even if 36 out of 36 points match in the Navatara Chakra, your married life could still be ruined. It won't last.
Santanu Roy: You must calculate from your birth star whether the bride's star is a Sanghatika or Vinasha Nakshatra. If you marry a girl with such a constellation, the marriage won't last. It might be destroyed. We need to calculate these things.
Santanu Roy: Another thing: we must look at Tithi and Karan. We must see if the energy of the Tithi matches the energy of the Karan. This is a very important factor. There are 11 types of Karans. "Karan" means the "cause of birth." Why were we born? What is our destiny (Prarabdha)? Our Karan is determined by that.
Santanu Roy: We must calculate the Karan. Suppose you were born in "Bisti Karan." Bisti Karan is ruled by Saturn. And suppose the person you are marrying was born in "Kaulav Karan," which is ruled by the Moon. In Bisti Karan, your characteristic would be that you interact with everyone but maintain a certain distance. That is Saturn's nature.
Santanu Roy: Now, if the person you are marrying has a nature where they are very social and mingle with everyone, and you don't like that, then the energies of your Karans are not matching. The Karan energy becomes negative. Therefore, the marriage can be ruined. So, we must look at the Karan as well. It is a most important part of marriage.
Santanu Roy: All these factors must be calculated. The term "Mangalik" is a misnomer; it has no real meaning. Mars alone does not govern your marriage. Yes, if your ascendant is Libra, your 7th house is Aries, so Mars governs your marriage. If your ascendant is Taurus, your 7th house is Scorpio, so Mars governs your marriage. For other zodiac signs and ascendants, the lord of the 7th house is the one that governs marriage. Understand this and calculate accordingly.
Santanu Roy: It's math, calculation—pure math. Right?
Questioner: Exactly, it's math.
Santanu Roy: Pure math. It's not right to take a decision suddenly without looking into these. I think this is a scientific approach—it is a science.
Questioner: It is entirely a science.
Santanu Roy: Absolutely. And people have created all this.
Questioner: Yes, people created it.
Santanu Roy: They did it for their own interests, but there is no such thing as "Mangalik." Truly, there is no such thing.
Santanu Roy: If Mars, for some reason, is the significator of marriage—say you were born in Libra and your 7th house is Aries, and Mars is the lord of the 7th house—and if Mars is negative in your birth chart, or passing through a negative star, a Sanghatika Nakshatra, or a Vinasha Nakshatra, then there is only one prediction. You can go to Ujjain. About 6 kilometers from there is the Mangalnath Temple. You can make a resolution (Sankalpa) there, offer prayers, and pacify Mars.
Santanu Roy: But there is no way to "cut" or "remove" the planet's influence. You can pacify it; you can satisfy the planet. But you cannot "cut" it or remove it through some ritual or tantra. That's not possible.
Santanu Roy: In our scriptures of astrology, there is no mention of "Mangalik" as a concept. Mars ruining a birth chart is not in our scriptures. It's totally false. We have discussed this for our own financial gain, for business, and to deceive people.
Questioner: So, we want to have a discussion. This misconception among people must be broken. After this, we will discuss "Shani's Sade Sati" (Saturn's 7.5-year cycle). We finished with Mars; next, we will talk about Saturn. These are things astrologers immediately bring up: "You are Mangalik," "You have an eclipse," or "You have Kaal Sarp Dosha." But these have no basis; they are not scientific. We don't want to go outside of science. Keeping science and God in front of us, we do our work. So, we will only discuss what is scientific. This might surprise many, but we have disclosed the original truth. You can say what you want or criticize us, but we have revealed the original truth.
Questioner: Gurudev, I want to ask Santanu one more thing. Whether Mars is favorable or unfavorable... we usually associate "Mangalik" with auspicious events like weddings, "Annaprashan" (rice-feeding ceremony), or pujas. But is that all Mars does, or are there other parts to Mars?
Santanu Roy: Mars has many roles. In a birth chart, Mars has various roles—financial, material...
Questioner: By material, I mean assets and property.
Santanu Roy: Mars has many roles. There could be so much discussion about Mars; it wouldn't end. Today I explained it briefly. If astrologers studied Mars a bit better, we could take astrology to a much higher level. For today, I have explained Mars in relation to marriage. In another episode, we can talk more about Mars.
Questioner: It will get too long. Santanu, the subject you are discussing—is it possible for a general astrologer to judge all this?
Santanu Roy: It is certainly possible.
Questioner: But if they have to maintain these methods, how many birth charts can they see in a day?
Santanu Roy: That's a different matter. If I sit down to deceive people to save time, I won't be able to calculate how many charts I see. But to actually calculate a birth chart properly... Look, a person comes to me with a lot of hope. From birth to death, all calculations—what the career will be, what the life will be, what they will do after birth, how the marriage will be, children, education—everything is in the birth chart.
Santanu Roy: So, those areas must be calculated and told accurately. I will never say something negative just so someone listens to my talk and goes to some temple to "cut" the influence of Mars or Saturn. These things don't happen. No planet can be "cut." At the time of birth, every planet is fixed in a certain constellation and position. That birth chart stays with us until death. After death, in the next life, we experience things according to our past deeds (Prarabdha).
Santanu Roy: So, that's it for today. Dear viewers, today you learned about Mars and "Mangalik." I hope we were able to explain it to you. The next episode will be about Sade Sati. We will be back.
Questioner: It will be about Shani's Sade Sati. We'll leave it here for today. Pranam, Gurudev.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Pranam.

Spiritual Insight

Santanu Roy reveals the scientific truth behind Mangalik Yoga, exposing the commercialization of astrology. He emphasizes that Mars alone does not ruin marriages—proper calculation requires examining the 2nd, 7th, and 12th houses, along with planetary lords, Nakshatras, Tithi, Karan, and multiple chakra systems. True astrological compatibility is mathematics and ancient science, not superstition. No planet can be "cut" through rituals; only spiritual pacification is possible.
