Narrator: Certainly! Here is the clean, punctuated, and well-formatted transcript of the audio in English:
Devotee: Gurudev, my respects to you.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Blessings to you, son.
Devotee: Today, I would like to learn from you about the Jap Mala (prayer beads).
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Yes. Durgadas Kaka once asked Bamdeb Baba, "Father, what are the different types of Jap Mala, how are they determined, and what are their spiritual results?"
Narrator: Bamdeb Baba explained that householders should make their beads from materials such as Rudraksha, conch shell, lotus seeds, pearls, crystals, gems, gold, coral, and Kush roots. For external worship, the use of lotus seed beads is very common and beneficial.
Narrator: He further explained the spiritual merits of different methods of chanting:
Narrator: Chanting with the fingers yields a single fold of merit.
Narrator: Chanting using the joints of the fingers yields eight times the merit.
Narrator: Chanting with Jibaputrika beads yields ten times the merit.
Narrator: A conch shell mala yields a hundredfold merit.
Narrator: A coral mala yields a thousandfold merit.
Narrator: Gems and jewel malas yield ten thousandfold merit.
Narrator: Crystal beads also yield ten thousandfold merit.
Narrator: Pearl beads yield a hundred thousandfold merit.
Narrator: Lotus seed beads yield a millionfold merit.
Narrator: Gold beads yield ten millionfold (one crore) merit.
Narrator: Kush root beads yield a billionfold merit.
Narrator: Rudraksha beads yield infinite merit.
Narrator: Baba specified which beads householders should use: Rudraksha, conch, lotus seeds, pearls, crystals, gems, gold, and coral. Chanting can also be done using the fingers. He emphasized that the prayer beads must be kept with great care and hidden from others. They should be treated with fragrant substances like musk, camphor, and white sandalwood.
Narrator: Baba advised that one should not always wear the mala. Wearing it everywhere-while eating or visiting various places-is not ideal. After chanting, the beads should be kept in a secluded, fragrant place. Only then do they remain spiritually effective.
Narrator: He also mentioned that if the body or the beads tremble during chanting, it is considered harmful. One must maintain stability. If the body trembles, one should stop chanting for that day as the results will not be favorable.
Narrator: There is a specific way to worship the beads: "Om Jong Male Sarbadebarang." Before use, the beads should be purified with Panchagabya (five products of the cow), Panchamrita (five nectars), and cold water. Then, they should be anointed with sandalwood, musk, and vermilion while reciting: "Om Hesou Sadashiba Mahapreta Padmasanaya Namaha."
Narrator: The beads must be purified regularly; otherwise, their spiritual potency diminishes. You must also invoke the Nine Planets (Navagraha), the Ten Guardians of Directions (Dashadikpal), and your Guru before starting the chant. Without these invocations, the chanting remains incomplete and lacks its full power.
Narrator: Nowadays, people wear beads around their necks just for show, even while eating and engaging in worldly activities. Most of these are just glass beads, not real crystals. This serves no spiritual purpose. A mala is a powerful tool and should never be worn casually.
Narrator: Furthermore, the mantra received from a Guru must be kept secret. If you disclose your mantra to anyone else, it becomes fruitless, no matter how great the sage who gave it to you. This is the law of chanting.
Narrator: Regarding children, Baba instructed that for those under 11 years old, one should simply chant "Durga Naam" while touching their head. No other rituals or beads are necessary, as children of that age are under the protection of Mother Durga. Only after the age of 11 do the "six enemies" (passions/vices) begin to influence a person. Before that, they are protected by the blessings of Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. Therefore, children should not be made to wear complex spiritual items. If there are severe difficulties, specific remedies can be sought, but generally, chanting the name of Durga or Shiva is enough.
Narrator: I see parents worried about six-month-old babies, making them follow rituals. I find it unnecessary. These were the teachings given by Bamdeb Baba to Durgadas Kaka, and we follow them word for word. He gave us invaluable spiritual treasures. Those who wear Rudraksha for show are not gaining anything. Spiritual practice requires following these specific guidelines.
Devotee: So, as per your explanation, the beads people wear nowadays are mostly for show.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Exactly. It's just for show. They think because a Guru or someone gave it to them, they should wear it, but it doesn't work that way. To make the chanting successful, one must follow the proper methods. If you chant using your fingers, you must first purify your hands with sandalwood paste.
Devotee: Which beads lead to faster spiritual success?
Guru Shyama Khyapa: It's not about "fast" success; it's about the merit gained. As Bamdeb Baba used to say, "Chant, chant, chant." He would tell his disciples, "Chant the name I gave you, and do not tell anyone." That is the key to spiritual progress.
Devotee: My respects to you, Gurudev.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Blessings to you.
