Devotee:
Gurudev, salutations. We observe that today, on the occasion of the Bengali New Year, you and one of your disciples are performing a sacrificial fire ritual (Homa Yajna) here at Shanti Kunja. Could you please share a few words about this with us?
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Salutations. Well, we perform the Homa Yajna every day; it is a part of our daily practice. However, today is special because it is Poila Boishakh (New Year), and given the current state of the world—specifically the coronavirus pandemic and the fragile economy—we are praying to God and the Divine Mother for better days ahead. May the future bring peace and health.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
This yajna is dedicated to that cause. People across the globe are suffering today, burdened by the weight of the pandemic. We are doing our part, performing our duties in the hope that God hears our prayers. We continue our work without attachment to the results. As the Gita teaches: "Karmanyevadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana"—which means, "You have a right to perform your prescribed duties, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions."
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
Therefore, we continue our efforts for world peace and human welfare. We pray to the Mother day and night. Beyond just the fire ritual, I am in constant prayer because a severe disaster has descended upon the Earth. I do not know what the final outcome will be, and even if I did, it would not be right to spread fear or falsehoods. However, I do not have a very positive feeling about the current trajectory.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
I am particularly concerned about the situation once the lockdown is lifted. If the government is not fully prepared, we may see chaos and conflict. The government must prioritize planning for the post-lockdown period.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
The lockdown may end sooner or later. The virus has begun to recede; its dominance is waning. However, if cases rise again, it will be due to human negligence. If people become reckless or disregard safety and crowd the streets, the virus will spread rapidly through slums and public areas. Human awareness is the only true protection.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
God is present, certainly. But if people remain conscious and responsible, they can overcome this virus. It is not an impossible challenge if handled with awareness. Consider West Bengal; with a population of 100 million, a few hundred or even a thousand cases is a very small percentage statistically.
Guru Shyama Khyapa:
If people become more vigilant, I believe we can get through this. We are praying and performing rituals day and night to ensure this danger passes. But a greater disaster looms: the economic collapse. How the government will manage this is a grave concern. I am very, very worried about the economic future.
