Host: Greetings, Guru.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Greetings, son.
Host: On this auspicious occasion of Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year), a disciple of Guru has arrived. She wants to share something about Guru's divine miracles. Shama-di, greetings.
Shama (Disciple): Greetings. First, I offer my respects to Guru and wish him a Happy New Year. May he stay healthy and well; I pray to the Lord for his long life and that he remains free from all worries. Today, Guru often speaks about Bamdev Baba and other great saints and their miracles, but today I want to talk about Guru's own miracles. He doesn't talk about his own, but I will today. He knows, I know, and perhaps few others do.
Shama (Disciple): About two years ago, I called Guru once to offer my respects. Then, one afternoon, Guru called me. I was very happy. He just asked, "Are you okay?" and hung up. A little while later, he called again and asked, "Where are you?" I said I was out. He kept calling and hanging up. I felt then that Guru was sensing something and praying to Mother Kali that nothing bad happens to me. Finally, he called and asked, "Are you really okay?" I said, "Yes, Dadu (Grandfather/Guru), I am fine." When I returned home, I found the gas pipe in the kitchen was leaking. I realized then why he was repeatedly checking on me and telling me to stay safe. When the gas technician came, he said I had escaped a major accident. I told him my Guru was worried and that's why he kept calling, though he didn't tell me exactly what it was so I wouldn't be scared.
Shama (Disciple): Another time, during our Mahamrityunjaya Yagna, I used to bring wood-apple (Bel) leaves every day for three years. One day, while I was out collecting them, no one would give me any; they were even being rude to me. Suddenly, Guru called me and said, "You don't need to bring any more leaves; I will perform the ritual with only ghee. Come back, you don't have to listen to their insults."
Shama (Disciple): In another instance, a sunshade at our house was about to collapse. I didn't know it was right above my head. Just as I stepped away, a second later, the wall fell. Guru had called me just before that as well. He sees impending dangers from somewhere. Through his blessings, I am still alive and well.
Shama (Disciple): I can't finish talking about his miracles in one day. When my mother and I went to Puri, he called and asked, "Did you get your seats? You both got lower berths, right?" He sees and protects everyone with his divine vision. This has happened many times in my life.
Host: We have seen you perform rituals (homa/yagna) with Guru. How did that feel?
Shama (Disciple): It is a matter of great fortune to perform rituals with him. I am lucky to have a Guru like him. It's his blessing and the Lord's blessing.
Host: After becoming his disciple, have you experienced anything supernatural that you can share?
Shama (Disciple): Yes, when I was in Puri, I could sense his presence in my hotel. I could smell the scent of his cigarettes and knew he was there. Once, I fell ill in Puri after a ritual inside a cremation ground. I told Dadu about it. Later, I saw the hotel door open automatically, and I felt him working on my head. This is something between a Guru and a disciple; it's hard to explain, it has to be felt. He healed me, and I gradually got better.
Host: Guru, your disciple just shared her feelings about you. What would you like to say?
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Well, her mother sent her to me when she was very young. Her name is Shama. She was born after her mother prayed to Mother Kali. When she was little, she used to come to my prayer room and wash the utensils every afternoon. She did it so well that I could tell just by looking at the shining utensils that Shama had cleaned them. Later, her mother left her in my care because she was very sickly.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: Then she insisted on receiving initiation and learning the rituals. I taught her the entire mantra over the phone. She wanted to perform the Mahamrityunjaya Yagna. She was very disciplined and would arrive at the cremation ground before 6 AM to start the fire and perform the ritual herself. She had no fear.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: The interesting thing is, when we offer food to Mother Kali, we place it on the funeral pyre. She did this for a long time. She used to say that the "guards" (spirits) of the cremation ground protected her. Whenever they wanted to eat something, she would bring it for them. Sometimes it was 'chops' or 'samosas'; she would leave them on a clay plate. There truly are protectors in the cremation ground. She walked there so early in the morning for so long, and nothing ever harmed her.
Guru Shyama Khyapa: One day, I arrived at 4 PM and found her very scared. I asked what happened. She said she went to the cremation ground where a boy from our group, named 'Kele,' had recently died in a bus accident right in front of the grounds. She said someone was telling her, "Tell your Guru to grant me salvation." I knew who it was—he used to drink a lot and was afraid of me, but he respected me immensely. I told her, "Next time he speaks, tell him Guru said he will grant him salvation." That very day, his family came to me saying there were disturbances at their house. I realized he was restless for salvation. I told his daughter to go home and that I would free him that night. Since then, there have been no more disturbances for Shama or his family. This is a living example of the spirits in this cremation ground.
