Disciple: Gurudev, my humble salutations.
Gurudev: Salutations.
Disciple: Gurudev, lately we have been observing something. There is an increasing sense of enmity among people. Compared to before, it has escalated significantly. The level of consciousness among people seems to have declined. Why is all this happening, Gurudev?
Gurudev: This is something humans are creating themselves. It is man-made. Look, lust and anger—it is from this anger that all kinds of enmity originate. If you cannot address or control your anger, then this is exactly what happens. Now, there are certain faces that people simply cannot tolerate. They start thinking, "These are my enemies." There are certain types of personalities where, just by looking at them, people turn away or pass sarcastic remarks. Then, that person feels, "He is such a great enemy of mine."
Gurudev: Almost everyone who comes here says the same thing: "I have enemies all around me—at home, outside, in the office, in the market—enemies everywhere." But how is this enmity being created? This is a very scientific question. Enmity is formed, firstly, due to self-interest. Where there is self-interest, as soon as there is a conflict or disagreement, people become enemies. It might start with one person, but they spread it so much that many others become enemies as well.
Gurudev: And nowadays, the biggest issue is land and property. I see that even if someone has a small piece of land, others try to take it—be it through Tantrik (black magic) means or any other way. Every day, people are being harassed. Since they can't legally seize it or force a sale, they resort to other tactics. They might say, "We won't sell our land, we'll need it in the future," but who listens? If someone buys the land behind yours and can somehow acquire even a tiny bit of yours in the front, it significantly increases the value and dimensions of their property. So, they use their money to spread propaganda and harassment, and day by day, the enmity grows.
Gurudev: Another reason is when people vent their own internal rage on others—getting angry without reason. This increases their enemies. Currently, if you cannot control the five impulses—lust, anger, greed, attachment, and pride—enmity will continue to rise. This conflict and violence will not end. We might think some great soul will come and settle everything, but there is still a long time before that happens. For now, the only solution is for people to restrain themselves. There's no need to mingle too much with everyone. However, I see many people who don't mingle, yet they are the ones being harassed the most. Why should they mingle with the neighborhood? A person might have a young daughter and live in constant fear for her. Even there, people show aggression and enmity. The more I see this, the more I am surprised. Will the social system sink to its lowest point? Will no one come to uplift it?
Gurudev: Everyone is busy with their own interests. Political parties are busy increasing their wealth and securing their legacies. They turn a blind eye. If someone goes to report an issue, they are just redirected from one office to another. No real work gets done. In this way, conflicts are increasing. Violence is breaking out over money. Only God knows where this will lead. No science or spirituality can provide a clear path forward here because no one can truly say why this is happening, yet it is happening.
Gurudev: I don't think people will find a way out of this easily. I'm telling you, in 2021, "fire" will burn. Prices in the market will soar, and there will be unrest in people's minds. Be ready for this "fire" in 2021. This isn't just about local bitterness; something will happen at a much higher level. The lower-level conflicts we see now will escalate to the top. It will be severe.
Disciple: Gurudev, to your point, you said in 2019 that 2020 would be bad. Now, in 2020, you are saying 2021 will be bad. We are stuck in this cycle.
Gurudev: It's a trend, and the trend isn't changing. In 2020, we had COVID and massive storms like Amphan. You saw that. But it didn't change people. The misery and distress people were in remain the same. Perhaps the government provided a few kilograms of rice, and because of that ration, the price of rice in the market didn't skyrocket, otherwise, people would have had to buy rice at 100 rupees per kilo. Soon, many things will disappear from the market overnight. You are eating potatoes at 35 rupees now; soon you will have to eat them at 70 or 80 rupees. When the market "catches fire," no fire brigade can put it out. It will continue and take a massive form. Mark my words; this is a prophecy.
Disciple: But Gurudev, this is man-made. The price of potatoes has risen so much, yet it's not like we don't have potatoes in storage. We have plenty. This is people acting against other people.
Gurudev: That is exactly the theory. This theory is nothing but a lack of distribution despite having resources. This is a major thesis: there is no shortage of food in the country, but due to a failure in the distribution system, people suffer. As we hear, there's a lorry strike. There's a strike before every Puja festival; we've seen this tradition since the time of the CPM (Communist Party). It continues unchanged.
Gurudev: The greed in people has increased. Everyone is looting whatever they can. They don't know if "Didi" (the leader) will stay in power or not, so they think, "If she saves her seat, fine; if we can't save ours, let's grab as much as we can while we can." No one can stop this. I've seen many leaders end up in disgrace or commit suicide. I've seen plenty of that.
Gurudev: I see no way out. I thought 2021 would be better, but no. Prices will soar, and people will be driven to madness. You might say it's because Puja is coming, but things will remain the same after the festival. Whether it's new potatoes or fresh vegetables, prices are stuck at 40-50 rupees. They give excuses like "the middlemen are taking the money" or "the farmers aren't getting paid." They will hoard crops in cold storage and only bring them out when they are almost spoiled.
Gurudev: This is the core issue: food exists, but half the population will starve due to poor distribution.
Disciple: So you're saying that despite proper production, it won't reach the people? It will be hoarded?
Gurudev: Yes. This thesis was written by someone in Bangladesh, and our Nobel laureate...
Disciple: Amartya Sen?
Gurudev: Yes, Amartya Sen. He wrote exactly this—that there will be no shortage of food in the country, but due to distribution failures, food will rot while it doesn't reach the people. Everyone wants a higher price, so they hold onto it for days—be it paddy, rice, or wheat. How much can the government do? They have a limit to their funds. They might ask the Central government, but what will the Center give? Perhaps because the Center is sending some food and the Bengal government is arranging some, people can still eat a little. Otherwise, in the coming days, many will die of starvation or semi-starvation. Someone asked me for another prophecy since my previous ones came true. Today, I prophesy: in the coming days, many will die due to a lack of food. It will become a valley of death. No one will have the power to stop it, and no one will even try. Everyone will just try to save themselves. The leaders and ministers will be nowhere to be found; they will be beyond reach. Even now, they use COVID as an excuse to avoid meeting people. That is the situation that has developed, and it will persist.
Disciple: Gurudev, on another note, we have repeatedly requested people not to post negative comments on your channel, but some people don't listen. It feels very bad.
Gurudev: Look, maybe one person out of a hundred does that. Let me tell you a short story so you understand that type of person. There was a young man who had no job. He would wander around, drink, and chase girls. One day, he decided he wanted a job. His friends suggested, "Go to the King. See if he has any work for you." So, he went to the King's court. The King asked, "What do you want?" He replied, "Your Majesty, I need a job." The King said, "I don't know if there is an opening. Let me call the Treasurer."
Gurudev: The Treasurer came and checked the records. He said, "Your Majesty, give me a moment." After checking, he said, "Yes, there is one position open: a khana-kata (someone who cuts straw/ditch-digger/low-level worker)." The King asked the young man, "Can you do the job of a khana-kata?" The young man replied, "Your Majesty, I was born into a family of khana (referencing a lineage or perhaps a joke on his lifestyle). Of course, I can do it!"

Spiritual Insight

This profound discourse reveals the deep connection between inner psychology and outer social collapse. The five impulses—lust, anger, greed, attachment, and pride—create a cycle of enmity that extends from individual relationships to societal structures. Gurudev's prophecy about the food crisis, echoing Nobel laureate Amartya Sen's thesis, demonstrates that scarcity is often artificial; the real crisis is one of distribution and human greed. When food exists but doesn't reach those who need it, we witness not a natural disaster but a moral failure. The humorous story of the khana-kata at the end reminds us that even in dire prophecies, a spiritual master maintains perspective—recognizing that those who spread negativity often do so from their own unresolved struggles.
