Our friends on YouTube have requested that you speak about some of the supernatural miracles of Bama-deb Baba. We would be very grateful if you could share some stories of Bama-deb Baba's miracles with us.
Gurudev:
Oh, Bama-deb Baba's miracles—there is no end to them! My life might end, I might pass away, but his miracles will never finish being told. How much can one say, and how much can one hear? Let me tell you a short story.
Gurudev:
Once, four friends used to work together in an office. At that time, Tarapith was a very daunting place, a cremation ground where Bama-deb Baba lived. These four friends decided they wanted to visit Baba and seek his blessings at Tarapith.
Gurudev:
They made all the arrangements. Their train was at 5:00 PM from Sealdah Station. They asked their boss for permission to leave early, explaining they were going to see Bama-deb Baba. The boss agreed and told them not to be late.
Gurudev:
Now, they wondered what they should bring as an offering. Back then, there were shops near Sealdah station that sold alcohol and hemp. Those shops used to close exactly at 5:00 PM. They hurried to a shop just as the owner was pulling down the shutters.
Gurudev:
One of the men asked the shopkeeper, "Could you please open for a moment?" The shopkeeper asked, "Why? We are closed." They replied, "We are going to Tarapith to see Bama-deb Baba and we want to bring some offerings for him—some hemp and some alcohol."
Gurudev:
As soon as the shopkeeper heard Bama-deb's name, he called out, "Nimai! Come here! Open the door! Find the best items we have for Baba. Give it to them quickly, or they'll miss their train. And don't you dare take any money from them. This is for Bama-deb Baba! Give them only the finest quality."
Gurudev:
They took the package and rushed to the station, but by the time they reached, the train had already started moving. They had their tickets, but the train was leaving. They asked a coolie, "Has the Rampurhat train left?" He replied, "Look, it's going right now!"
Gurudev:
But then, just a little way past the platform, the train suddenly came to a complete stop. It wouldn't move. The men ran as fast as they could and managed to climb into the very last carriage—the Guard's van.
Gurudev:
The Guard asked, "Why did you jump in here? This is the Guard's compartment." They explained, "We are on our way to see Bama-deb Baba in Tarapith."
Gurudev:
Hearing Baba's name, the Guard immediately folded his hands in respect. "Please, sit down," he said. "At the next station, I will wait and let you move to a passenger carriage before I signal the train to start again." He was overwhelmed that they were visiting Bama-deb.
Gurudev:
The next morning, Bama-deb Baba called out to his disciple, Gadhai. He said, "Gadhai! Some 'Babus' are coming from Kolkata. There were supposed to be four, but only two have come. Go stand by the road; they are bringing my food."
Gurudev:
Gadhai went and waited by the road for a long time. Eventually, two gentlemen arrived. Gadhai realized they must be the ones Baba mentioned. He asked, "Are you looking for Baba?" They asked, "Where can we find Bama-deb Baba?" Gadhai said, "Come with me. He was just talking about you."
Gurudev:
When they met Baba, they offered the hemp and alcohol. Baba said, "Give it to me! I've been waiting for this. You've traveled a long way with much difficulty. You want to see the Mother [Goddess Tara]?" They replied, "Yes Baba, we will visit the Mother after seeking your blessings."
Gurudev:
Baba looked at them and said, "Tell me the truth, would you have been able to get here on your own?" They said, "No Baba, it was a miracle. The train had left, but then it just stopped. We ran and caught it."
Gurudev:
Baba laughed and said, "I was the one who stopped that train! Otherwise, you wouldn't have made it. I knew you were bringing my food, so I held the train for you. It only started moving once you were on board."
Gurudev:
This is just one of Bama-deb Baba's supernatural stories. There are so many. I remember another one about a gentleman from Bangladesh.
Gurudev:
He had heard that Bama-deb Baba could perform miracles. This man was embroiled in a major legal battle over his property and had lost everything; he was practically on the streets. He came to Baba and pleaded, "Baba, this is my situation. I have lost all my land."
Gurudev:
Baba told him, "Sit. Stay here with the Mother for a while." A month passed. Baba didn't call him once. The man would sit near Baba, but Baba wouldn't even look at him. One day, the man lost his temper. He said, "So many people come here and you help them, but you do nothing for me!"
Gurudev:
Baba smiled and said, "Your work is already done. Go home." The man didn't believe him. Back then, there were no phones or quick mail. He argued, "Why are you talking nonsense? If you won't help, just say so."
Gurudev:
Baba just laughed and said, "Just go. I forgot to tell you earlier, but it's done."
Gurudev:
The man returned to Bangladesh in a huff. As soon as he arrived, he learned that the court had delivered the verdict in his favor. All his lost property had been restored. He was stunned. He hadn't even been there, but the court ruled for him exactly when Baba said the work was done.
Gurudev:
The man felt terrible for how he had spoken to Baba. He rushed back to Tarapith, fell at Baba's feet, and wept, saying, "I misunderstood you. I am so sorry." Baba told him, "I don't care about all that. You came for a purpose, and I did the work for you. Now go. You don't need to stay in Tarapith anymore."
Gurudev:
There are countless stories like these, but they take a long time to tell.
